Curfew in Birgunj lifted for 11 hours

21 February, Birgunj : Curfew in Birgunj Metropolitan City has been lifted for 11 hours.

The indefinite curfew imposed from Monday evening has been lifted on Wednesday from 11 am to 10 pm.

Despite the ongoing curfew, restrictions were eased on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, allowing movement between 6 am and 10 am.

The District Administration Office, Parsa, imposed a curfew after a clash between two groups.

On Tuesday, the District Administration Office called a meeting aimed at preserving mutual harmony, where five key points were established. These included strengthening the enduring unity between the two communities, preventing any actions that may disrupt this unity, and ensuring respect for each other’s faith centres and religious places while refraining from organising protest programs such as slogans and processions.

Furthermore, activities that could disturb the peace and security of the district, undermine religious, social, and cultural harmony, and incite conflict were prohibited. This encompassed bans on religious communal rallies, processions, strikes, and negative messages targeting specific castes, religions, or communities on social media, which were also asked to be prohibited.

Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal announced that, following the resolution of the dispute between the two communities, the curfew has been lifted until Wednesday night.
